‘Purple power’ will be put to the test by seven Brisbane women who are on a mission to get more women to take up cycling.
Our seven female ambassadors received their custom purple jerseys this week which they will wear in B2GC on Sunday October 15.
With the help of the ambassadors, female entries for B2GC17 are up on last year’s numbers with two weeks to go until the event on October 15.
Women traditionally account for just 20% of entrants in mass participation cycling events like B2GC.
The ambassadors represent a wide variety of riders, from unabashed Lycra-lovers and former competitive cyclists, to a Commonwealth Games organiser, a champion charity fundraiser and mothers.
It’s hoped that their diverse backgrounds and stories of how they started cycling will show women cycling is an inclusive sport that’s accessible to all women.
So keep an eye out for Team Purple on October 15 and feel free to tag along with them.
